Classic Car parts Classic El Camino History 1959 - 1967Classic Car Parts Co.First Generation 1959 – 1960 In 1957 Ford introduces a new line: The Ranchero. From what I can find and what I remember the Ranchero was a basic pickup with a car body, no amenities, well it had a heater and a radio. In 1959 Chevrolet will introduce the Classic El Camino, based on the Impala body style. the El
Camino was a dramatically beautiful sedan-pickup. Chevrolet combined a car with
a truck: Chevy described it as "More than a car - more than a truck". Second generation (1964-1967) 1964 Chevrolet will introduce the Classic Chevelle, the Classic El Camino will be reintroduced with the
Chevelle frame and body style. The only draw back was that Chevrolet considered
the El Camino as a utility vehicle and did not provide the larger engines as an
option. 1965 will see the introduction of the 327 for the Classic El Camino, one engine option will be the 327 ci with 350 hp. The drag strip will have times in the low 15’s at around 90 mph. 1966 will bring the 396 to the Classic El Camino, ranging from the 325 hp to the 375 hp, times at the drag strip drop to the 14’s. 1967 will see the addition of Air Shocks as a standard. The body will follow the 1967 Chevelle style. Classic 1965 El Camino 350 hp 327 Ci not as fast as the Coupe' but fast enough!
