Fourth generation (1973-1977)

1973 will see another redesign of the Classic El Camino, although the Chevelle has been ended as a line the El Camino will live on.

1974-1975 will see no changes in the body style, nor power.

1976 El Camino will again get a body style redesign, with stacked head lights.

1976 El Camino

1977 will not see any changes for the El Camino

Fifth generation (1978-1987)

1978 will see another redesign of the El Camino. It will be smaller using the components of the Chevrolet Malibu and Monte Carlo.


1979-1981 will see no changes for the Classic El Camino.

1978 El Camino

1982 the El Camino now will get four head lights again and a V6 engine.

1983 – will see no changes to the body style or engine options.

1984 GM will shift the production to a plant in Mexico, a diesel engine will be available.

This body style will continue until GM ceases production in 1987.


The El Camino had a good run!
