In 1970 the Classic Chevelle and Classic El Camino came with a SS option pack.
The options were:
SS 396
SS 454
In 1971 the Chevelle and El Camino came with a SS option pack.
The options were:
SS 350
SS 454
Not to be confused with the Heavy Chevy option.
In 1972 all Chevelle’s and El Camino’s came with a SS option pack. The options
were:
SS 454
Not to be confused with the Heavy Chevy option
So you have a SS but is it for real or is it a Clone?
Check your Body By Fisher Plate for the answer if you want to be sure.........
With out going into deep detail you need to look at the Body By Fisher number
plate like this:

The STYLE NUMBER is a combination of the make, series and body style:
1970 SS – 396/454 are these three numbers: 13637 (2-Dr Coupe),
13667 (2-Dr Convertible)
13680 (El Camino Custom)
1971 SS and Heavy Chevy Options – 350/454 are these two numbers: 13639
(4-Dr Sport Sedan) and 13667 (2-Dr Convertible, 2-Dr Sport Coupe).
The EL Camino is not listed for the SS options, it is listed as Custom: 13680
1972 SS options were available on all models.
The bottom line is if you are paying Big Bucks
for an SS then GET a
SS!
Just because it has SS emblems,
Doesn't
mean it is!
