Classic Car parts Classic Chevelle SS History 1968 to 1970Classic Car Parts Co.1968 will see a redesign for the Classic Chevelle SS, the rear end will be shorter and the front end longer enhancing the fast back appearance. To accomplish this, the wheel base will be shortening also by three inches, with a return of the L78 375 option. The vehicle was fast, zero to sixty in about 6.5 seconds and 14.5 seconds in the quarter mile. This was disappointing because the total production was less than 57,800 down from the year before. 1969 will see the 396 SS become an option for the Chevelle. Also the 396 will grow to 402 ci but the name 396 will stick. Also introduced will be a 427 ci in limited quantities. Once again the Chevelle is popular, over 86,300 vehicles produced. 1970 is the peak for the Chevelle SS as a muscle car, only 53,600 Chevelle SS’s
will be produced but the muscle is way up. With a range of 350 hp from the
402 ci to 450 hp from the 454 ci engine. This will be the fastest Chevelle of
the line. The LS6 454 in the Chevelle SS would get to sixty in just about six
seconds; do the quarter mile in 13.7 seconds.
